Sonepur College removed from autonomous list: College Students' Union reacts strongly
Jagrut Odisha Bureau, Subarnapur ·

The Sonepur College Students' Union has reacted strongly today after it was found that the name of Sonepur College, the oldest college in Sonepur, was not found in the list of 42 colleges called for autonomous status by the State Government's Higher Education Department. On behalf of the Students' Union, President Roshan Sharma, Vice President Lovely Sahu and Sunil Pradhan said that thousands of poor and talented students from the district and neighboring districts have been studying in Sonepur College, the oldest in Sonepur district, since 1964. And they are deprived of many basic amenities. Protests and demonstrations have been held in the past due to widespread neglect and non-grant of government status to this old college. And the Old Students' Union has made various demands to the government. There is an example of meeting and discussing during the visit of various ministers and Chief Ministers to Sonepur. To grant government status to the college, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, along with Higher Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj, School and Mass Education Minister Nityanand Gand and Education Secretary, led by Birmaharajpur MLA Raghunath Jagdala, met with him. Such a paternalistic attitude of the government is proof of neglect towards Subarnapur district. It has been warned that if Sonepur College is not included in the autonomous status process immediately, a protest will be held in the coming days.
