Kalimela police have seized 1,325 kg of smuggled ganja during a raid near Gagrimetla forest in Malkangiri district. The estimated value of the seized ganja is Rs 66.25 lakh. The police suspect the involvement of an inter-state drug smuggling racket in this incident.
A police team raided the forest after receiving specific information about a large quantity of marijuana being illegally stored there. However, before the police arrived, the suspected marijuana dealer had fled the scene after receiving advance information about the raid.
The police seized the marijuana in the presence of Kalimela Tehsildar and Executive Magistrate Ramakrishna Satyarajguru and other witnesses.
In this regard, a case has been registered at Kalimela police station under Section 20(B)(ii)(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to Kalimela Police Station Officer Prabhudatta Biswal, preliminary investigation suggests that smugglers from outside the state are involved in this illegal trade. The police are trying to identify all those involved in this illegal trade and take strict legal action against them.
Further police investigations are ongoing to identify the source of the seized marijuana and to uncover the network behind this smuggling.
